Getting familiar with your finances
Updated: Sep 18
Many of us grew up without money. However, even without it there were small beliefs we were all told about money from someone.

For myself, growing up we had this belief that you always leave a coin in your wallet, no matter how depleted you were. This called for more money to come to you.
How beliefs are formed
The beliefs we grow up with start off as a new piece of information. We observe someone familiar to us repeating an action. It intrigues us. We ask for an explanation. Depending on how good it is, a seed is planted. We observe some more and before we know it, we start to copy the action. With time this action takes root and starts to inform our decisions. Over a longer period, the action solidifies in our mind and shapes us.
Looking to the bible
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. - 1 Timothy 6:10
Many people have read this verse and concluded that money is evil. They then shied away from finances and have lived in poverty. They have gone on to pass this belief to generations. Creating cycles of poverty.
Put it to practice
It is a small habit but give yourself an amount, even if it is ten dollars to start. Keep it in the place you keep your money. As silly as it may sound, it is not a bad idea. It trains you in a simple way to keep money.
Tell yourself that I will never be so depleted that I do not have money with me. Get used to seeing money in your bank account, your wallet/purse or in your pocket. You train your money memory to expect money. Creating a good finance habit. This process builds up faith. Faith that money can come to you.
